2011-2012 AYSO REGION 69

ALLSTAR / EXTRA/TOURNAMENT TEAM TRYOUTS

U10, U12, & U14

Dear Parents and Players:

The All-Star Program provides an opportunity for skilled players to continue their AYSO soccer experience at an accelerated level by competing in tournaments against other All-Star teams from neighboring communities and statesAll players who have played in 3/4 of their league games (no more than 2 absences for reasons other than injury, illness, or late assignment) are eligible to try out for THEIR division’s  EXTRA/All-Star/Tournament Teams.  The Tournament Season begins with practice in December, and extends to June, or perhaps optionally longer, depending on the team.

There are (3) three types of Post-Season teams in Region 69:

(1) "EXTRA" Tournament Teams from divisions U10, U11 and U12 which have played together in a competitive AYSO interregional soccer league throughout the Fall season and will continue play in the AYSO Spring tournament Season. At the end of the regular Fall season, several players will be added to the Extra tournament teams through a mid season tryout.  The strongest players will be added to the existing EXTRA teams.

(2) ALL-STAR (or “A”) teams from divisions U10, U12 and U14. These teams are formed through mid-season tryouts, coach scouting of games and league coach recommendations.  In addition to playing during the Spring tournament season, these teams will represent Region 69 in the AREA P / SECTION 1 / CALIFORNIA STATE ALL-STAR tournaments.  From the All-Star teams, fourteen or fifteen U14 players, twelve U12 players and nine or ten U10 players will be selected to play in these tournaments.

(3) TOURNAMENT (“B” or Development) TEAMS which are also formed from tryouts, scouting and recommendations and also play in the AYSO Spring Tournament season.  More players will be chosen for each team than a tournament roster allows, so please understand that selected players will not necessarily play in all tournaments.  This allows more players to participate throughout the season.

Selection or non-selection to play in a Thanksgiving Tournament SHOULD NOT be considered as selection or non-selection for the All-Star Team.

The EXTRA/All-Star/Tournament Team coaches are looking for players and families who will be committed to the team.  It is important that you understand the commitment involved.  You may receive a call to discuss that commitment.

PARENTS MUST BE...

1.  Willing to accept a major responsibility for the team or the All-Star/Tournament program as a whole.  This includes volunteering to be a referee, mandatory for each family in U10, and assisting with 2012 Registration in April and May.

2.  Willing to support their player's commitment to the program.

3.  Willing to pay the Tournament Team and Region fees.  League funds cover ONLY the Area/Section Tournament expenses.  LEAGUE FUNDS MAY NOT BE USED TO COVER ANY OTHER TOURNAMENT EXPENSES.

4.  Willing to sign and abide by the Tournament Behavior Contract.

5.  Willing to be patient and flexible.

6.  Willing to attend the REGION TOURNAMENT SEASON PARENT MEETING to be held in January.

PLAYERS MUST BE...

1.  Available to try out.  Make other arrangements with coach if tryout dates don’t work.

2.  Available for many weekends from January – end of May

3.  Committed to attending one or, more likely, two practices a week.

4.  Willing to SUPPORT AND COOPERATE WITH all teammates and coaches, and willing to be a "Team Player."

5.  Willing to work hard to be the best he/she can be.

6.  Willing to sign and abide by the Tournament Behavior Contract.

IF YOU HAVE NO INTENTION OF ABIDING BY THIS COMMITMENT, DO NOT TRY OUT FOR THESE TEAMS JUST TO SEE IF YOU WOULD MAKE IT.    If you are selected, you are expected to accept a position on the team that selects you.  You will not be offered a position on another team.

These factors will be taken into consideration in determining which players will be selected:

1.  Skill level.

2.  Speed and agility.

3.  Commitment to league team - attendance at all practices and all 4 quarters of all games will be considered.  PLAYERS WHO HAVE MISSED MORE THAN 2 GAMES FOR REASONS OTHER THAN INJURY, ILLNESS, OR LATE ASSIGNMENT, OR WHO HAVE AN UNEXCUSED ABSENCE FOR A CRUCIAL LEAGUE GAME, ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR ALL-STARS.    Again, it is expected that eligible players have attended all 4 quarters of their league game.

4.  Performance on league team.

5.  "Team Player."

6.  Sportsmanship.

7.  Performance at tryouts.

8.  Attitude.

It will be very difficult to make the final selections.  Coaches must take into consideration a number of factors in making their decisions.  Many players will be disappointed.  As an option, the Region has a Spring Clinic League, and so does the PALISADES YMCA and WESTSIDE YMCA.

Teams may be notified after Dec 1, though some rosters may not be set and notification could come any time in the ensuing two weeks.

All players who try out will be notified by December 18th at the latest by e-mail.
