AYSO REGION 69               2007 / 2008                         ALL-STAR              TOURNAMENT TEAM TRYOUTS U10 / U12 / U14

Dear Parents and Players:

The All-Star Program provides an opportunity for skilled players to continue their AYSO soccer experience at an accelerated level by competing in tournaments against other All-Star teams from neighboring communities and states. All players who have played in 3/4 of their league games with no more than 2 absences for reasons other than injury, illness, or late assignment, are eligible to try out for THEIR DIVISION All-Star/Tournament Teams.  There are exceptions for illness, injury, and late assignments.

The Tournament Season begins with practice in December, and extends to June, or perhaps longer, depending on the team. 14 or 15 (9 or 10 in U10) players will be selected to play in the AREA P / SECTION 1 ALL-STAR TOURNAMENT.  However, between 18 and 50 players will be selected from each division to participate in other tournaments on one of the teams.  More players will be chosen than a tournament roster allows, so please understand that selected players will not necessarily play in all tournaments.  This allows more players to participate throughout the season. Selection or non-selection to play in a Thanksgiving Tournament SHOULD NOT be considered as selection or non-selection for the All-Star Team.

The All-Star/Tournament Team coaches are looking for players and families who will be committed to the team.  It is important that you understand the commitment involved.  You may receive a call to discuss that commitment.

  Parents must be:

1.   Willing to accept a major responsibility for the team or the All-Star/Tournament Program as a whole, which includes participation as a referee.  Training is provided by the region.

2.   Willing to support their player's commitment to the program.

3.   Willing to pay the Tournament Team and Region fees.  League funds cover ONLY the Area/Section Tournament expenses.  LEAGUE FUNDS MAY NOT BE USED TO COVER ANY OTHER TOURNAMENT EXPENSES.

4.   Willing to sign and abide by the Tournament Behavior Contract.

5.   Willing to be patient and flexible.

6.   Willing to attend the REGION TOURNAMENT SEASON PARENT MEETING to be held in January.

    Players must be:

1.   Available to try out.

2.   Available for games MANY WEEKENDS from January through June.

3.   Committed to attending all practices (2 per week).

4.   Willing to SUPPORT AND COOPERATE WITH all teammates and coaches, and willing to be a "Team Player."

5.   Willing to work hard to be the best he/she can be.

6.   Willing to sign and abide by the Tournament Behavior Contract.

IF YOU HAVE NO INTENTION OF ABIDING BY THIS COMMITMENT, PLEASE DO NOT TRY OUT FOR THE ALL-STAR/TOURNAMENT TEAMS JUST TO SEE IF YOUR CHILD WOULD MAKE IT.

The following factors will be taken into consideration in determining which players will be selected:

1.      Skill level.

2.      Speed and agility.

3.      Commitment to league team - attendance at all practices and games will be considered.  PLAYERS WHO HAVE NOT PARTICIPATED IN 3/4 OF THEIR LEAGUE GAMES, WITH NO MORE THAN 2 GAMES MISSED FOR REASONS OTHER THAN INJURY, ILLNESS, OR LATE ASSIGNMENT, OR WHO HAVE AN UNEXCUSED ABSENCE FOR A CRUCIAL LEAGUE GAME, ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR ALL-STARS.

4.      Performance on league team.

5.      "Team Player."

6.      Sportsmanship.

7.      Performance at tryouts.

8.      Attitude.

It will be very difficult to make the final selections.  Coaches must take into consideration a number of factors in making their decisions.  Many players will be disappointed.  As an option, the PALISADES YMCA has a SPRING LEAGUE.

FINAL SELECTIONS WILL NOT BE ANNOUNCED BEFORE DECEMBER 1, 2007.  THIS IS A SECTION 1 RULE.  ALL PLAYERS WHO TRY OUT WILL BE NOTIFIED AFTER THEIR REGION 69 DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIPS. (U14 - Dec 12th, U10 / U12 - Dec 18th)

Please refer to the attached TRYOUT SCHEDULE if you are interested in trying out for the All-Star/Tournament Team in your division.
